DATの「空白セクション」と「ミュートセクション」
アナログのコンパクトカセットとデジタルのDATで大きく異なる点は、無音部分の種類である。
コンパクトカセットでは単に「音がない区間」であるが、DATでは絶対時間(アブソリュートタイム)が記録される関係上、無音であっても「空白セクション」と「ミュートセクション」の2つがある。
・空白セクション(blank section)：絶対時間も記録されていない(全くの未使用区間)
・ミュートセクション(sound-muted section)：絶対時間が記録されているが、音のない区間
未使用のテープには絶対時間も何も記録されておらず、(音の有無は問わず)録音することで、絶対時間が記録される。
絶対時間はテープ先頭からの経過時間であり、テープ先頭から記録されるため、途中に「空白セクション」が生じると連続性がなくなり、以後の絶対時間が異常となってしまう。
「空白セクション」を生じさせないように無音部分を作るには、テープの早送りではなく、録音ミュート機能を使い、「絶対時間＋無音」の記録をする。
常に絶対時間の連続性を保つことを頭に入れて、録音をする必要がある。

The difference between a blank section and a sound-muted section
「空白セクション」と「ミュートセクション」の違い
The deck distinguishes between two kinds of silent sections, which are respectively called a “blank section" or “sound-muted section".
デッキは、それぞれ「空白セクション」または「ミュートセクション」と呼ばれる2種類の無音セクションを区別/識別します。
Blank section
「空白セクション」
This is a section on which no signal has ever been recorded.
これは、これまで信号が記録されたことのないセクションです。
空白セクション：×(絶対時間が途切れており連続していない)
Sound-muted section
「ミュートセクション」
This is a section on which a signal has been recorded but at a level that is not audible.
信号が録音されているが、音量が聴き取れないレベル(＝無音)のセクションです。
ミュートセクション：○(無音ではあるが絶対時間が記録されており連続している)

Make sure no blank sections are created while you are recording.
録音中に「空白セクション」が作成されないようにしてください。
The existence of blank sections within recorded material will make search operations using the AMS(←←/→→) buttons impossible or destroy the continuity of the absolute time codes.
録音された素材内に「空白セクション」が存在すると、AMS(←←/→→) ボタンを使用したサーチ操作が不可能になったり、絶対時間の連続性が破壊されたりします。
If you press the REC button while in a blank section
「空白セクション」でRECボタンを押すと
The deck automatically rewinds the tape to the beginning of the blank section and changes to recording pause(except during Timer Recording).
デッキは、自動的にテープを「空白セクション」の先頭まで巻き戻し、録音一時停止状態に切り替わります(タイマー録音中を除く)。
Absolute time codes
絶対時間
Absolute time codes indicate the elapsed time from the beginning of the tape.
These codes are automatically recorded.
Note that once recorded, absolute time codes cannot be re-written.
絶対時間は、テープの先頭からの経過時間を示します。
これらのコードは自動的に記録されます。
一度記録された絶対タイムコードは書き換えることができません。
For accurate recording of absolute time codes
絶対時間を正確に記録するため
・If the tape is blank, make sure to start recording from the beginning of the tape.
・Use Record Muting (see page 12) to insert spaces between tracks.
Do not advance the tape with the → or →→ button.
テープが空の場合は、必ずテープの先頭から録音を開始してください。
・トラック間にスペースを挿入するには、録音ミュート(後述)を使用してください。
→や→→ボタンでテープを送らないでください。
・To start recording from the middle of a tape, use End Search (see page 10) to locate the end of the recorded portion.
This will prevent the creation of blank sections.
・テープの途中から録音を始める場合は、エンドサーチ(後述)を使い、録音部分の終わりを探してください。
これにより「空白セクション」ができてしまうのを防ぐことができます。
If “EMPHASIS" appears in the display
ディスプレイに「EMPHASIS」が表示された場合
The deck is recording a digital signal with emphasis (in the higher frequencies).
The recording will also contain the same emphasis.
デッキはデジタル信号を(高周波数帯域を強調して)録音します。
録音にも同様の強調が含まれます。
If the deck is left in recording pause for more than 10 minutes
デッキが10分以上録音一時停止状態にした場合
Recording pause will be released automatically, the deck will stop and “SOURCE" will appear in the display.
To resume recording, press REC.
The deck will change to recording pause.
録音一時停止は自動的に解除され、デッキは停止し、ディスプレイに「SOURCE」と表示されます。
録音を再開するには、RECボタンを押してください。
デッキは録音一時停止状態になります。
When using a new tape
新しいテープを使用する場合
Before you record on a new tape, we recommend that you fast forward the whole tape and then rewind to the beginning to make the tape reel smoothly.
新しいテープに録音する前に、テープ全体を早送りしてから最初に巻き戻して、テープがスムーズに巻き取られるようにすることをお勧めします。
録音ミュート
Inserting a Sound-Muted Section While Recording(Record Muting)
録音中に「ミュートセクション」を挿入する(録音ミュート)
Use Record Muting to insert a space of about 4 seconds between tracks.
This is recommended if you plan to copy the DAT tape to an analog audio cassette tape since the spaces will allow you to use automatic search functions to locate the beginning of each track.
When you start recording from the beginning of a blank tape and want to insert a space before the first track, be sure to create a sound-muted section using Record Muting only.
Do not advance the tape with the →→ or → button since this will create a blank section on the tape.
録音ミュートを使用すると、トラック間に約4秒のスペースを挿入できます。
DATテープをアナログオーディオカセットテープにコピーする場合は、スペースを挿入することで自動サーチ機能を使用して各トラックの先頭を検索できるため、このオプションをお勧めします。
空のテープの先頭から録音を開始し、最初のトラックの前にスペースを挿入する場合は、録音ミュートのみを使用して「ミュートセクション」を作成してください。
→→または→ボタンでテープを進めないでください。テープに「空白セクション」が作成されてしまいます。
1. Press REC MUTE where you want to insert a space while the deck is recording or in recording pause.
The deck creates a sound-muted section as “REC" flashes in the display.
After the sound-muted section is completed, “REC" lights up and the deck changes to recording pause.
1. 録音中または録音一時停止中に、スペースを挿入したい場所でREC MUTEを押します。
「ミュートセクション」が作成され、ディスプレイに「REC」が点滅します。
「ミュートセクション」の作成が完了すると「REC」が点灯し、録音一時停止状態になります。
To insert a blank space longer than 4 seconds
4秒を超える空白を挿入するには
Hold down REC MUTE as long as you want.
When you release the button, the sound-muted section ends and the deck changes to recording pause.
If you keep the button pressed longer than 4 seconds, “REC" will begin to flash more quickly and the time elapsed after pressing the REC MUTE button is shown in the display.
REC MUTEボタンを必要なだけ押し続けてください。
ボタンを離すと、「ミュートセクション」が終了し、録音一時停止状態になります。
ボタンを4秒以上押し続けると、「REC」の点滅が速くなり、REC MUTEボタンを押してからの経過時間がディスプレイに表示されます。
When you release the REC MUTE button, Pause in the display stays on and the deck changes to recording pause.
REC MUTE ボタンを放すと、ディスプレイの Pause が点灯したままになり、デッキは録音一時停止に変わります。
2. Press Pause or → to resume recording.
2. 録音を再開するには、「一時停止」または「→」を押します。
The deck starts recording again.
デッキは再び録音を開始します。
Note
注意
If you do not create a sound-muted section at the beginning of a tape, you may not be able to move or erase a start ID that is recorded within 2 seconds from the beginning of the tape.
テープの先頭に「ミュートセクション」を作成していない場合、テープの先頭から2秒以内に記録された開始IDを移動または消去できない場合があります。

Locating the End of the Recorded Portion (End Search)
録音部分の終了位置の検索(エンドサーチ)
End Search detects a blank section longer than 9 seconds, then automatically rewinds the tape to the end of the recorded portion, then stops.
Use End Search to start recording from the end of the recorded portion without creating a blank section on the tape.
エンドサーチは、9秒を超える「空白セクション」を検出すると、自動的にテープを録音済みの部分の最後まで巻き戻して停止します。
エンドサーチを使用すると、テープに「空白セクション」を作成することなく、録音済みの部分の最後から録音を開始できます。
1. With the deck stopped, press ←← to rewind the tape to the beginning.
1. デッキが停止した状態で、←← を押してテープを先頭まで巻き戻します。
2. Press →→.
2. →→を押します。
The deck locates the end of the recorded portion, then stops.
The deck stops at the beginning of any blank section that is 9 seconds or longer, or fast-forwards to the end of the tape if the tape is blank.
デッキは録音部分の終わりを見つけて停止します。
9秒以上の「空白セクション」の先頭でデッキは停止し、テープが空白の場合はテープの終わりまで早送りします。
If you press the REC button while in a blank section
「空白セクション」でRECボタンを押すと
The deck automatically rewinds the tape to the beginning of the blank section and changes to recording pause.
“BLANK" and “WAIT" appear in the display while the deck is searching for the beginning of the blank section.
デッキは自動的にテープを「空白セクション」の先頭まで巻き戻し、録音一時停止状態になります。
「空白セクション」の先頭を検索している間、ディスプレイに「BLANK」と「WAIT」が表示されます。
Notes
注意
・End Search does not operate if you press the →→ button while in a blank section.
・If the tape is blank, the deck merely fast-forwards to the end of the tape.
・「空白セクション」で→→ボタンを押しても、エンドサーチは動作しません。
・テープが未録音の場合は、デッキは単にテープの最後まで早送りします。
デジタル記録によりコンパクトカセットにはできない正確な位置決めが可能となったが、やはりメディアがテープでは限度がある…
